Charles W. Strittmatter, age 92, of Avon Lake, formerly of Cleveland Heights, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at his home at Independent Village in Avon Lake, following a long illness.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio and had been a resident of North Ridgeville since 1998 moving from Cleveland Heights, where he spent most of his life.
Charles served in the US Army 107th Calvary during WW II.
He worked as a salesperson for National Paper Products for over 25 years before retiring in 1984.
Mr. Strittmatter enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, traveling and going to the family cottage at Waldron Lake, Indiana.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ruth (nee Wilson); daughters, Marsha (Wayne) Clive of Rogers, Arkansas, Linda (Lanse) Van Ost of Santa Ana, California; nephew, Mark (Barb) Vilcsek of Belmont, CA, grandchildren, Jeri (Jeff) Alten, John (Yolanda) Clive, Corey (Katie) Clive, Kevin (Ashley Steger) Clive M.D.; great-grandchildren, Madilynn and Morgan Alten, Alina, Kaden Charles, Sofia Clive, Kali, Camryn and Keegan Clive; sister, Dorothy McTighe of South Carolina; brothers, Frank and Lawrence Strittmatter both of Cincinnati.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Cecilia Strittmatter; brothers, Robert, Edward, William Strittmatter and sister, Barbara Hunt.
Friends may call 6-8 PM Friday June 1, 2012 at Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Rd. N. Ridgeville. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10 AM Saturday June 2, 2012 at St. Clarence Catholic Church (please meet at church) 30106 Lorain Road, North Olmsted. The Reverend Tom Flynn will be the celebrant. Full military honors to be conducted by VFW Post 9871 at the church. Private internment will take place in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
