Carol J. Miller (née Nixon), age 78, of North Ridgeville, passed away Friday, August 24, 2012 at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake. Devoted wife of Rolland S. Miller, loving mother of Judith, Robert (Lynn) and Roger (Carol), dear sister of Robert (Rosemary) Nixon, beloved grandmother of Grace, Greg, Sol and Ginny and great-grandmother of Chloe and Noah. She was preceded in death by her parents, Myron and Ruth Nixon.
Carol was born in Canton, Ohio and resided in Avon, Berea and North Ridgeville for most of her life. A graduate of Canton McKinley High School, she attended Kent State University, where she met Rolland. While at Kent State, she played clarinet in the marching band. She graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Medical Laboratory Science and subsequently earned a Masters in Laboratory Education from the University of Eastern Michigan. She worked in the laboratory at Southwest General Hospital for 30 years, helping establish and later directing its School of Medical Technology. She took great pride in the success of her students over the years. She enjoyed music, traveling with her family, playing pinochle, and singing in the church choir.
Services will be held at the Fields United Methodist Church, 34077 Lorain Road, North Ridgeville, OH on Monday, August 27, 2012, at Noon. Dr. Tom Joyce will officiate. Friends and family may call at the church from 11 AM to Noon. Interment will follow Fields Cemetery, North Ridgeville. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association http://www.alz.org/ or to Fields United Methodist Church http://fieldsumc.org/ .
